HVAC

After the discovery of Ultra Violet light in 1800, scientists went on to demonstrate that UV Light contained bacteria-killing properties in 1892. This tremendous breakthrough allowed UV C air purifiers to significantly reduce the spread of disease and improve overall indoor air quality.

With over 125 years to improve upon UV air filtration, research has proven that UV light for HVAC systems are beneficial when used in both residential and commercial settings, such as households, commercial buildings, and public facilities.

UV Lighting Offers Health Benefits & Increased Energy Efficiency

  • Reduces Irritants, Diseases, & Illnesses Your heating and HVAC system keeps your house warm in the winter and cool in the summer by circulating air through your vent system. But that’s not all it does. It can also distribute viruses and airborne bacteria that live in this system, affecting your indoor air quality. But, when you have a germicidal UV light installed, the light destroys microorganisms and pathogens before they circulate into the air.
  • Surprisingly Affordable Installing a UV light is cost-effective. Although every HVAC is different, we can take a look at yours and let you know what would work best. How much you will have to pay to install a UV light in your HVAC unit depends on a few things. They include what size system you need, your home’s humidity and temperature levels, the number of bulbs needed, and lamp placement. Additionally, the UV system upkeep can be done when we service your HVAC or clean your ductwork.
  • Eliminates VOCs Volatile organic compounds are both natural and man-made and can contaminate your indoor air. When you have an ultraviolet light system in your HVAC unit, VOCs can be significantly reduced.
  • Reduces Drain Line Moisture Your air conditioner produces moisture, and condensation can build up and clog the drain line. UV lights reduce moisture and clogs.
  • More Energy Efficient With UV lighting, you can save money by reducing your HVAC’s energy consumption substantially, therefore reducing energy costs. With regular maintenance and an ultraviolet system, you can reduce the amount of energy you use by up to 35%.
Better Airflow Since the ultraviolet light destroys microbes, you won’t have build-up on your air filter, air ducts, or coils. With less resistance, your system will be more efficient and operate better.

That’s simple; you find a local licensed HVAC contractor like Envirosmart Solutions that provides the services you need and has excellent reviews.

UV light can be a regular part of your routine to continually stamp down any mold that has been exposed or potentially spread into the air.

UV light can be an easy way to begin killing any of the visible mold, and also to help kill any mold spores in the air and prevent further spreading of the mold

The inverse square law applies to germicidal ultraviolet as it does to light: the killing power decreases as the distance from the lamps increases. The average bacterium will be killed in ten seconds at a distance of six inches from the lamp

We cover all of Puget Sound including the following cities: Arlington, Auburn, Belfair, Bellevue, Black Diamond, Bonney Lake, Bothell, Bremerton, Des Moines, DuPont, Duvall, Everett, Federal Way, Gig Harbor, Graham, Issaquah, Kenmore, Kent, Kirkland, Lacey, Lakewood, Lynnwood, Maple Valley, Marysville, Medina, Mercer Island, Mill Creek, Monroe, Mukilteo, Normandy Park, Olympia, Orting, Pacific, Port Orchard, Poulsbo, Puyallup, Redmond, Renton, Sammamish, SeaTac, Seattle, Shoreline, Silverdale, Snohomish, South Hill, Southworth, Spanaway, Steilacoom, Sumner, Tacoma, Tukwila, Tumwater, University Place, Woodinville, Yelm.

There are three main types of UV lights – low pressure, medium pressure, and high pressure. Low pressure is the most common one, producing a large amount of shortwave ultraviolet light (UV-C light). Medium-pressure UV lights produce a smaller amount, while high-pressure UV lights produce the least amount of shortwave ultraviolet light.

The amount of UV light a lamp produces is measured in watts per wavelength range in nanometers (nm).

We would advise against that if the UV lights are not installed correctly (for example, if you tighten the screws too much, you can damage the plastic housing).

3 Common Questions Families Have About UV Light

  1. Are UV lights truly safe?
Yes, they are. You’ll find ultraviolet lighting in commercial kitchens, hospitals, and operating rooms. When it comes to installing one in your HVAC system, it’s vital to hire an experienced and qualified contractor like Envirosmart Solution to make sure the installation is correct and won’t harm your system.
  2. Approximately how long does a UV light really last?
Generally, a UV lamp lasts about a year (around 9000 hours). Most bulbs are mounted to the inside of your HVAC system and positioned to shine on the coil. Although the light will stay on, it’s effectiveness on killing bacteria and germs diminishes after 12 months.
  3. What exactly does an ultraviolet lamp do for an HVAC system?
Simply put, the light kills microbes that live in the system. Microbes such as
  • Viruses
  • Mold
  • Fungi
  • Bacteria
  • Mold spores
  • MildewThese contaminants are a danger to your health, and if they aren’t killed, they recirculate in the air you breathe 24/7. For years, UV light has been used for sterilizing. The ultraviolet light kills bacteria, mold, and germs. That’s why hospitals, restaurants, and labs use them. Using this same technology, you prevent the buildup and recirculation of mold, pollen, smoke, dust, dander, and chemicals throughout your home. Indoor air pollution is a real threat to your health, but with a UV light, you can eliminate the risks and breathe easier.
